Yosemite Adventure Hikes, Backpack Trips
"In the absence of modern conveniences, we are able to give nature our undivided attention. Observations of the changing seasons, the unique displays of earth and water, and the daily co-mingling of all living things will never cease to amaze me." R. Potts
Ryan's love of wilderness exploration has been an integral part of his character for as long as he can remember. Much of his youth was spent wandering the chaparral mountains and the desert washes of Southern California. He was introduced to Yosemite at age 18 when he completed the John Muir Trail which passes through the heart of the park. Ryan has also crossed the U.S. on a bicycle, backpacking many of our most revered natural places along the way. He has worked as a guide in central America, taking visitors to mangrove inlets and outer island reefs in his dugout canoe. He walked the Pacific Crest Trail with his wife Tamara, a 2,600 mile trail from Mexico to Canada.
Ryan has made it a priority to simplify his life and live more in tune with the natural world. He holds a degree in environmental studies from U.C. Santa Barbara. Trained in bio-intensive farm practices, he grows organic vegetables for the local farmer's market. Ryan has spent many years in the ocean as a surfer and as a commercial fisherman working in Alaska and California. His study of wilderness survival, including the edible and medicinal plants of the west is ongoing. He recently finished building a home by hand using trees he sustainably harvested in the surrounding forest. Taking an interest in sewing, he continues to refine his own line of outdoor gear and footwear.
In all his travels, Ryan has not found a place that tops Yosemite's display of sheer natural splendor. A trip here is sure to create vivid cherished memories. Wouldn't he be lucky to be included in an adventure as your guide?
