Yosemite Adventure Hikes, Backpack Trips
For Tamara Faulkner backpacking and living close to nature is not only a passion but a lifestyle. Her love of the great outdoors was kindled as a youth backpacking and camping in the Sierra with her family. This early exposure led her into international trekking and inspired her to walk the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,600 mile hike from Mexico to Canada. She and her husband Ryan Potts walked for six months through changing seasons and different climates. They witnessed the transition of the diverse ecosystems and the grand geological magnitude of the mountain ranges of the Pacific Crest and the valleys and deserts below. Tamara realized while on this journey that her greatest desire was to share this with others.
Through her formal education as well as self taught interest and experience, she has a wide knowledge of her natural surroundings and how to coexist in that environment in a sustainable manner. In addition to her A.S. degree in Marine Science, Tamara’s areas of study include ecology, utilitarian arts, wilderness survival and identification of medicinal and edible plants. She has held a diversity of jobs including seaweed harvester, private chef, organic farmer, and sea kayak guide. She was also a co-founder of a beekeeping cooperative on the big island of Hawaii, and a field biologist studying and banding migratory songbirds on the Northern California coast.
For Tamara the mountains provide a sanctuary, a place of peace, joy and exhilaration. She invites you to leave behind, if for a brief time, the domestic modern world and experience a journey of a lifetime. She has much to share with you as you explore Yosemite's grandeur, from it's large sweeping vistas, to it's small hidden treasures.
